Frequently Asked Questions

So, you've got questions?

We've got answers!

Do you board animals? No, we are strictly an in-your-home pet sitting service.

Will you share the pet sitting I need with my neighbor/friend/relative, etc.? Because we are professional pet sitters, we have a highly specialized insurance policy, therefore we are unable to "job-share" with anyone. Furthermore, anyone not listed on your contract as having access to your home during the service period will be considered trespassers, and the police will be called if they enter. Excluded in this policy would be emergency/home repair personnel.

Will you visit our cats every other day? Because we have seen on numerous occasions cats who lock themselves in bathrooms, bedrooms, closets, and not to mention the household emergencies such as bursting water heaters, alarms that go off by themselves, etc., we will visit homes with only cats at a minimum of once per 24 hours.

Will give our parrots "out-time" during your visits? Absolutely! We have a parrot of our own and understand how important everyday out-time is to large birds. We must make sure however, that your bird will respond to us favorably when it's time to put them back into their cage. This can be accomplished during our initial meet & greet.

Will you visit our dogs once per day? Because dogs require more "people-time" than many other pets, and respond favorably to stress-reducing activities such as regular walks, we will visit homes with doggie-doors at a minimum of twice per 24 hours, and homes without a doggie-door will be visited three times per 24 hours.

What is a "Daily-Walker"? Daily-Walker visits are for clients who require someone to come in for a 30 minute visit one time during the day and take their pets outside for some form of exercise during the day while they are away at work. A doggie door is not required, since we know you will be home in the morning and evening to let them out during their normal schedule. This is the only type of visit we do for dogs that is one time per day.

What if we don't allow our animals inside our house? Our policy is to not take clients who don't allow their animals inside the house. In our experience there are too many "what-ifs" that can occur in this situation.

We know of incidents of animals hanging themselves by their own collars on fences; water going dry; dogs digging out from under fences; loose and free-roaming neighborhood dogs jumping over fences and killing resident pets, animals escaping from fright in Monsoon storms; Coyotes and Hawks killing dogs and cats; and animals dying from the heat. The latest danger, which is getting worse year by year is Killer Bees. There have been several recent instances where both people and dogs have been attacked and killed by them throughout Maricopa County.

So no, if your animals cannot by it's own will come into the house for safety while we are sitting for them, then we will not accept you as a client.

The obvious exception to this rule would be for animals who must live out of doors, such as horses, livestock, and certain reptiles such as established tortoises.

What does an Overnight visit consist of? An Overnight visit runs 10 - 12 hours, usually from 8p.m. to 8a.m. After we arrive we give them their nightly exercise, feed your pet(s) dinner, and stay overnight. In the morning we give them their morning exercise and their breakfast. We then secure your home and leave for the day. For homes without doggie-doors a Midday visit, or an upgrade to Live-In is required.

What does a Live-In visit consist of? A Live-In visit is approximately 16 - 18 hours out of every 24. It consists of an Overnight and one or more Midday visits.

What happens in an emergency? In a life threatening, pet-related emergency we first contact an emergency vet closest to your home. We administer CPR/1st Aid, if it is helpful, and transport your pet (we transport in an emergency at no charge) to that emergency facility. We will then contact you as soon as care of your pet is taken over by the emergency staff. In a non-life threatening, or house-related urgency, we will first contact you using the "Contact Now" number listed in your file, and your emergency contact person, if necessary.

Are you insured? We are fully insured with special property coverage that is better suited for client protection. Every new client receives a copy of our certified coverage.

Are you licensed? We are a LLC on file with the state of Arizona. You can get on the Corporation Commission website for our state and find our company listed there under their LLC department. Within the city of Mesa there is no license requirement for our type of business.

Do you have references? Yes. Every client is emailed a list of our references before the initial consultation.

What is a Free Initial Consultation? We come to your home at a pre-appointed time, well in advance of your departure date . At the consultation we have a meet-and-greet with you and your animals. We usually email our Pet Care, Household, Contract, and Vet Authorization forms to you in advance of this visit for you to fill out at your leisure, so by the time we see you we can spend the time getting to know your family animals, and your routine instead of writing out forms the whole time. Also during this initial visit we collect from you two tested-working keys and payment for services.

What do you mean by "Late Payment Fee"? We expect payment for services before the commencement of services. Payment from first-time clients is given at the initial consult. Once you are an established client, payment may be left at an established area of your home (i.e. on counter, kitchen, etc). If payment is not there when we arrive for the first day of the pet sit, you will be charged a late payment fee of $15.00 initially after the first 24 hours of non-payment, plus a fee of $22.00 (plus distance charges if they already apply to you), if we must make a trip to pick up the payment after you return home. If it is still not paid, you will be charged $15.00 for every 10 days it is late. If, however, the payment is received within the first 24 hours from wherever you are, via PayPal or from a friend who's willing to cover you, this fee is then waived, less the PayPal fee. Our policy is to not allow monies to be owned to us at any time, for any reason. If this is a habitual occurrence with any client, we will drop that client.

What are the booking/cancellation policies for established clients? Once you are an established client with us you have 48 hours in which to book OR cancel our short visit services. You have one week in which to book OR cancel Overnight or Live-In services.

This changes at holiday times. We require one to two weeks for short visits and two weeks for all Overnights and Live-Ins.

Also, there are no refunds if you return early from your trip as we can't replace a lost time slot that quickly.

Do you charge extra at holiday times? Most career-working folks who work on the major holidays are paid time-and-a-half. Some are even paid double-time! However, we will keep ours at 1.5 times our salary to stay within the norm. But we don't do this for every holiday. The holidays that are charged are: Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day.

Why do you want two keys at the Consultation? We are a two-person business. Either of us may alternately sit for your pets. We each must have quick access to your key, especially if something were to happen to one of us while we are caring for your pets. Our emergency back-up plan includes the necessity of having a second key available. Also, in the unlikely event that a key is misplaced, we will have a spare (although this has never happened; if it did our insurance covers key/lock replacement).

How will you protect my keys? We specially code your keys (there is no personal information on any key), then lock them in a safe, separately from where your file is kept.

How will you protect our identity? We never give out to anyone, at any time, any personal information about any of our clients, without your express permission. Furthermore, we are bound by our insurance, and maybe more importantly, our reputation. We also have a vested interest to protect your records. For example, our Veterinarian Authorization form is written so that only the Veterinarians listed on the form can use it...you are only authorizing charges by them in the case of an emergency, or required care. Any other kinds of charges would automatically be deemed unauthorized. Plus, the information on the form is what is actually required by the 24/7 emergency hospitals we use so that we as a third-party can bring your animal in their facility for treatment. Without this information as it is written on the form the hospital is within their rights to refuse service to your animal even if it is a life-threatening illness if they believe they will not be paid. Yes, this sounds unbelievable, but it is true.

Will you leave our house the way you found it? We will of course clean up after ourselves. We will clean up after your pets up to a reasonable amount. If for example, your pets are untrained, experience separation-anxiety, even with a reasonable amount of exercise, are destructive, or are just very messy, we will have to charge you accordingly when you return home for the time required to cope with these issues. This usually applies to 30 min visits, as we run out of normal paid time during these circumstances. This charge also applies in the event that you have a house-related event occur in your absence, and we are unable to enlist the help of a friend or relative. For example, if all seven of your smoke alarms go off or your water heater has ruptured, and we walk in on that (these have actually happened!), and we have to stay several hours to take care of the problem, then we would have to charge you for that time, and for any fees incurred seeking professional help.
